Sports Facilities

Arena

Home to the Axewomen & Axemen varsity Hockey teams, Acadia Minor Hockey, and other community user groups, the Andrew H. McCain Arena serves as the Region’s premier indoor, multi-purpose event space. Our Olympic-sized ice surface plays host to over 30 events per year, and is surrounded by 1,877 bowl seats, with an additional 223 in standing room capacity. A 2-lane walking/jogging track surrounds the entirety of the Arena, providing a soft-cushioned floor for athlete warm-up and cool down.

Gymnasium

Serving as the Host Venue for our varsity Basketball and Volleyball teams, the War Memorial Gymnasium features a FIBA sized hardwood floor court. Our gym holds 1,385 total spectators for Basketball/Volleyball, and includes 144 reserve seats (seats with backs), 881 general seats (bleachers) and 360 general seats (standing room). Our gym includes media booths, infrastructure and ample lighting for webcasting.

Competition Pool

The Acadia Athletic Complex includes a 6-lane, 25 meter competition pool, which is home to the Acadia Varsity Swimming Team and the Tritons Swim Club,. The upper viewing deck makes Acadia’s pool an ideal location for Regional and Provincial swim meets, and more. Visit Acadia University Recreation to access the community programming schedule.

Outdoor Fields & Track

Raymond Field plays host to the Acadia Axemen Varsity Football Team, Varsity Soccer, Rugby & Cross Country Teams, as well as a number of other community sport associations. Raymond Field is surrounded by an eight-lane outdoor running track that is heavily used for active living, training, competitions, and events.

With a seating capacity of 968 in the grandstand, plus overflow tabletop seating, three locker rooms, a press box, and event-ready supporting infrastructure, Raymond Field provides a premier outdoor venue for major events.

In the summer of 2022, Acadia played host to the CFL’s Touchdown Atlantic, on Raymond Field, welcoming over 10,000 spectators, and generating $12.7 million of economic activity in Nova Scotia.

Adjacent to Raymond Field, and right off Main Street, in the heart of Wolfville’s downtown core, President’s Field is the perfect location for large-scale outdoor events. Also, in 2022, the Acadia Student’s Union hosted their first-ever major outdoor concert event, in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend, playing host to over 3,000 concert goers.

Ancillary Outdoor Recreation Facilities

Acadia has three full-size, grass, soccer/football/rugby fields, referred to as the “Dyke Fields,” available for community programming and sporting events. Additionally, in partnership with the Town of Wolfville, Acadia University is home to three additional soccer fields, a skate park, outdoor basketball court, and two outdoor tennis courts situated at the top of Campus.
